Perform a Secure Erase SSDs

Summary

Steps to perform a Secure Erase using:

  • Solidigm™ Storage Tool (SST)
  • Solidigm Synergy™ Toolkit (Toolkit)
WARNING

Secure Erase will remove all user data from the drive!

NOTE

The Secure Erase functionality is compatible on the following operating systems if the conditions below are true.

Compatible operating systems:

  • SATA: Supported Windows* 7 only and Linux*
    • Newer versions of Windows* block this capability.
  • NVMe*: Windows* and Linux*

Supported conditions:

  • Solidigm™ SSDs only.
  • Drive is not the primary system drive.
  • No partitions on the drive.

Resolution

Solidigm Synergy Toolkit

Download: Solidigm Synergy™ Toolkit
The Secure Erase, through Toolkit, is only compatible with NVMe* SSDs.
SATA SSDs cannot be Secure Erased unless using Windows* 7.

Toolkit GUI

  1. Launch the "Solidigm Synergy™ Toolkit".
  2. Locate correct SSD, in the Drives tab.
  3. Select "Secure Erase" tab.
  4. Click the "Erase Now" button.
  5. Read the Secure Erase Warning Popup.
    • Click "Run Erase" to proceed.

Toolkit CLI

  1. Open the CLI as admin.
  2. Get reference to drive.
  3. Execute the command:
    • SynergyCLI.exe delete -ssd <ref>
  4. Read the warning message:
    • Type "Y" and press "Enter."

Solidigm Storage Tool

Download: Solidigm™ Storage Tool

SST in Linux* can secure erase both NVMe* and SATA SSDs.
Windows* can only secure erase NVMe* SSDs, unless using Windows* 7 (which can also do SATA).

SST GUI

  1. Launch the "Solidigm™ Storage Tool."
  2. Select "Secure Erase."
  3. Locate the correct drive
    • Click the "Secure Erase" button.
  4. Read the warning message.
    • Click "Yes" to proceed.

SST CLI

  1. Open the CLI as admin.
  2. Get reference to drive.
  3. Execute the command:
    • sst delete -ssd <ref>
  4. Read the warning message:
    • Type "Y" and press "Enter".
