Summary
Learn some basics of EDSFF (Enterprise and Datacenter Standard Form Factor).
The following information comes from the following pages:
Overview
- EDSFF stands for "Enterprise and Datacenter Standard Form Factor" and is not only for SSDs.
- These are purposely built for integrated circuits and move away from the form factors used by HDDs and early SSD integration or adoption.
- All EDSFF (as of this writing) use the same connector, interface and protocol.
- This means any EDSFF can be switched with another, only limited by the physical dimensions of the unit(s) and system.
- Solidigm™ creates drives in a few EDSFF types:
- E1.L
- Stands for "EDSFF 1U Long". Meant to maximize capacity.
- Tall enough to fit in a 1U server standing up. They are about 320mm long, their thickness varies
- E1.S
- Stands for "EDSFF 1U Short". Meant to replace M.2 110mm form factor.
- Tall enough to fit in a 1U server standing up. They are about 110-120mm long, their thickness varies.
- E3.S
- Stands for "EDSFF 3U Short". Meant to replace U.2 2.5-inch form factor.
- Tall enough to fit in a 3U server standing up. They are about 110-140mm long, their thickness varies.
