Cloud Storage Acceleration Layer (CSAL)

An Open-Source, Host-Based Flash Translation Layer (FTL)

Overview

Cloud Storage Acceleration Layer (CSAL) is an open-source host-based Flash Translation Layer (FTL) project under the Storage Performance Development Kit (SPDK) that uses high-performance SSDs as an ultra-fast cache and write buffer for write shaping workloads to NAND-friendly, large, sequential writes. It is designed to sit between the application and the high-density NAND SSDs, intercepting write requests and optimizing write amplification and performance. CSAL uses advanced algorithms to dynamically optimize the use of compute resources, enabling multi-tenancy, reducing latency, improving throughput, and enabling faster access to data.

Reference Storage Platform (RSP) Overview

Solidigm has developed an open-source SPDK/CSAL-based reference storage platform in collaboration with Intel©, StarWind, the SPDK community, and other industry partners. This platform fosters industry-wide collaboration and enables easy evaluation and adoption of new storage technologies. The instructions and downloads provided below enable you to build the reference storage platform.

FIO scripts are also provided to enable you to reproduce the tests and performance results described in Solidigm’s solution brief below and to experience the unprecedented total cost of ownership (TCO) benefits of Solidigm D5-P5336 61.44TB QLC SSDs.
